SC Coasts Forecast Flooding As Tropical Storm Nicole Nears Hurricane Strength
South Carolina’s coastal counties are under a tropical storm warning as of Nov. 9, as Nicole makes its way west toward Florida.
Nicole made landfall just before noon on Great Abaco Island, the largest among a group of islands in the northern Bahamas, according to the National Hurricane Center. The tropical storm had sustained winds of 70 mph — just shy of the 74-mph threshold for a Category 1 hurricane.
As of 1 p.m., Nicole was 175 miles east of West Palm Beach, Fla. The storm was forecast to veer into the Gulf of Mexico before bending back northeast into Georgia as a tropical depression.
