The University of SC’s economic development office misspent $1.7 MILLION in federal COVID relief funds, according to findings by the Legislature’s auditors.
The review, requested by a bipartisan group of state legislators, also found the university’s Office of Economic Engagement likely violated ethical standards and sent employees to golf tournaments and football bowl games at taxpayers’ expense, according to the 165-page report released last Thursday.

FITSNew's Dylan Nolan broke the news yesterday that embattled founder of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus was suspended from the organization "some time ago".
But unfortunately ... that is NOT what was implied in rather defensive and hostile responses to reporters' questions at the SCFC State House Press Conference on November 14th, 2024.
The new SCFC Chairman, Jordan Pace (R - Berkely), strongly defended RJ May calling him an "upstanding member" of the SC House ... and attacked reporters who dared to ask him about the matter. At that time, Pace stated "If he is a member of the House, there is no reason to exclude him." Until indicted, May is still, and is currently, a member of the SC House.
What changed, and when? Perhaps the public relations nightmare in how the SCFC under their new leadership has handled this crisis.
But don't take our word for it ... watch this 2 minute clip for yourself. Does this look like a group that had suspended RJ May "some time ago"? - VIDEO CLIP LINK: https://youtu.be/KzUM_GiW9zg?si=JCh9TXl1PK8DCg_P
